about us

We are an association from Münster that has been active in Gulu, in northern Uganda, since 2010

The north of Uganda was affected by severe civil war fighting for over 24 years. A war that turned children into soldiers and girls into mothers. A war that traumatized entire families, made children orphans and turned people into refugees.

Today, Uganda is one of the poorest countries in the world. We at Lichtstrahl Uganda e.V. have set ourselves the goal of ensuring basic medical treatment and the supply of basic foodstuffs.

In addition, we create access to school education through our schools and thus support the most vulnerable children in our community. It is particularly important to us to make their homeland "liveable" where their home is.

The glow on site

Something to know about our history

In 2010

Our Lichtstrahl project in northern Uganda/Gulu was created in 2010 with a small, simple medical station on a small piece of land outside the city area towards the bushland.

As so often in life, new opportunities arise from many small things and chances and our project has been able to grow steadily thanks to great donations.

We have now expanded our little lightray world to 4 locations. Three of them are within walking distance of each other.

On our largest site there is a medical station, HIV and vaccination base, maternity ward, mothers' crisis house, kitchen and staff lounge area, administration building, preschool, Lightray roestbar coffee shop and our guesthouse - many call this area "the little lightray oasis".

The other two locations are our primary school with boarding section, the workshop and the children's crisis house with our two therapy dogs Amalia and Noah. Location. Number 4 is our agricultural project in Pangu and is about 15 km away from us.
