    Mothers’ group

A few years ago we had the idea, as is often the case here in Germany, to offer mothers a place to meet and exchange ideas. We didn’t know if it would work, but it did! Our mothers’ group meets every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and we use this time together with our social workers to sensitize and educate them about various topics. There are discussions on topics such as hygiene, infectious diseases, family planning, domestic violence, child protection, balanced nutrition, food cultivation and preparation. Many of our mothers fled the civil war throughout their lives and unfortunately never received the “cross-generational knowledge” that we often learn from our mothers, so it is very important for us as a ray of light to give this “knowledge” back. Especially when the mothers live deep in the village, it is important to know, for example, how do I recognize a fever, how do I feed my children, what are the most important hygiene measures for newborns…!Some of these mothers now even have a secure job with us, such as in our tailor shop, in our kitchen, in the daycare area or generally on the premises.
